LaVenture Bands
Pride, Determination,  Integrity, Respect
The LaVenture Band Program teaches musicianship through concert band performance in a rigorous three-year course of study, emphasizing the determination to succeed, commitment to personal responsibility, and pride in accomplishment. Our goal is to develop the skills for lifelong enjoyment in music, and nurture personal attributes necessary for success in all of life’s pursuits.

Ensembles

LaVenture Bands present four concerts each season, highlighting curriculum, our development band program, and jazz ensemble. A wide variety of music is studied, representing both classic band literature and contemporary music.

Cadet Band

Cadet Band welcomes sixth-grade musicians from Washington, Centennial, Lincoln and Madison Elementary Schools into LaVenture Bands. Focus is placed on building concert band balance, blend, and intonation by continuing learning basic skills from the Essential Elements method book, then expanding into scales studies and rhythmic analysis through the  I Recommend book. Skills are applied in the performance of concert band repertoire at each concert. Students may choose the extra challenge of playing new instruments to enhance the band's sound such as tuba, euphonium, french horn.

Concert Band

This intermediate band teaches expands understanding basic elements of  musicianship including tone production; notation and rhythmic understanding; interpretation of style, phrasing, and expression; and form and harmonic structure. More difficult skill studies teach these skills, which are then applied to the performance of full concert band repertoire in each concert. New instruments are introduced as dictated by the needs of the band and the desire of young musicians to challenge themselves.

Symphonic Band

Symphonic  Band performs compositions of greater complexity and difficulty  to expand student’s knowledge of music theory, form, and stylistic and interpretive understanding. Repertoire is selected to build individual musicianship as well as group performance standards. Considered the "ambassador band" into our community, symphonic band performs in elementary schools, participates in collaborative events with other bands, and plans an annual tour.

LaVenture Jazz Ensemble
LaVenture Jazz Ensemble teaches basic style and theory elements of jazz through performance of classic Swing, Latin, and contemporary pieces.    Improvisation allows students to expand their knowledge of music theory and form, and develop personal musicianship. A demanding yet nurturing learning environment encourages students to take the personal risk necessary to become successful jazz musicians. The LaVenture Jazz Ensemble
performs throughout the community taking their music to farmers' markets, the La Conner waterfront, and other schools.
