Welcome to the Mount Vernon High School Bands Music Department Home
Page. We are pleased that you stopped by to visit us. This site was created to provide
information to our existing members, their parents, alumni, and anyone else interested
in our program.
We will begin by providing a little background information about our band program. Our current band director is Mr. Scherr. With a band enrollment that averages 100-150 students, the program now includes the marching band, three concert bands, three jazz bands, a percussion ensemble and several instrumental chamber ensembles. The Instrumental Music Department at Mount Vernon strives to maintain a balanced program in all facets of music education, including the development of the individual musician. Over the years, the Mount Vernon Band program has consistently produced excellent musicians who are in demand by colleges and universities throughout the Northwest and many parts of the country. The tradition of excellence held by the Mount Vernon High School Band program is developed through the hard work and dedication of current students, past members, our private instructors and directors and is proud to represent our school and community. |
Jacob Scherr - Mount Vernon High School Band Director
Mr.
Scherr is active as a performer
and conductor in orchestra, wind band, and operatic fields. He has held
positions as conductor of the Plateau Symphony orchestra, the Western
Washington University opera production Gianni Schicchi, and music director for
the world premiere opera ‘The Critic’ composed by Hau-Wei Chang. He has also
guest-conducted the Gateway Concert Band, the North Sound Youth Symphony, the
WWU Chamber Orchestra, the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, and he recently founded
the Whatcom Wind Ensemble, which he co-conducts. In June of 2009 Mr. Scherr
graduated with a degree in Music Education from Western Washington University,
where he was the principal clarinetists of the Wind Symphony and Symphony
Orchestra. Mr. Scherr considers himself extremely fortunate to be the director
of bands and percussion at Mount Vernon High School and looks forward to seeing
continued success in the program.
