Marching Band camp sets the tone for the year. It is not only a time that we learn and perfect our marching technique but begin to bond as a band and create the atmosphere of success and excellence that drives the Mount Vernon High School Band Program. During marching band and pep band are some of the only times when the entirety of the program works together. Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are all together, mentoring one another for a higher musical goal. Tone, musicality, ensemble, technique and balance are key components to that are focused on during the camp.

Why should my son or daughter do marching band?
- Students get to walk into Mount Vernon High School with a close knit group of friends from day one! We spend so much time together and do so much together that it’s impossible for you to not come away at the end of Marching Band Camp without a new best friend!
- Students get a chance to get some exercise! Marching Band is just as much a sport as it is an art.
- Students get to improve your musical skills, whether it’s on the instrument you’ve been playing for years or by learning a new instrument.

Are there fees involved for Marching Band?
- Yes is a fee for being involved with Pep/Marching band. Students will need to buy and band jacket & T-shirt alongside which students need to purchase a music fold and lyre for their instruments.. There is a $15 uniform fee but only for students participating in the Leavenworth Field Trip. More information about this can be found on the band web site at: http://www.mvbands.org/parents.html
What is the time commitment for Marching Band?

Can I enroll in band and play a sport?
- Yes!  We have many students involved in both music and athletics. Students must keep track of their schedule and notify the band director and coach of possible conflicts, but accommodations can usually be made.  It requires hard work, dedication, and planning to maintain good grades while participating in music and athletics but the students that choose to do both activities are glad to stay involved.
Is the parent orientation in August only for marching band students?
-   No, this event is for anyone enrolled in the Instrumental Music Department. Everyone is invited! Bring the entire family. This event is held on the last day of band camp. (Friday, the 3rd week of August)
What if I have more questions about the program? Who can I contact:
