Local Community Performing Groups

Fidalgo Youth Symphony
Similar to taking private lessons on your instrument, participating in a local Youth Symphony can greatly help a student improve his or her musicianship.  This director highly recommends that students participate in multiple musical activities, such as taking lessons or playing in the Youth Symphony, or both!  Several students in the SWHS band already participate in the Fidalgo Youth Symphony and highly recommend it because you get to meet musicians from other schools, play great music, and have a lot of fun! http://fysmusic.org/

Whatcom Wind Ensemble
The Whatcom Wind Ensemble is a community band based in Bellingham, WA made up of community, college, and advanced high school musicians.  The WWE's "Summer Symphonic Series" is specifically geared to keep students playing music at a high level during the summer months, while away from school. http://www.whatcomwindensemble.org
