What's New in Cadet Band: Our Second-Year Sixth Grade musicians meet Tuesday and Thursday Mornings. They have worked hard and are already into their second book of study, Essential Elements 2000 Book II! In addition to learning their Concert Bb and Eb scales, arpeggios, and exercises, they are working on two new chorales, sixteenth note rhythms, and articulation studies. Three concert band pieces are in preparation for the LaVenture Bands Spring Showcase: "Reflections on the Missouri River" is a beautiful, slow piece depicting the panoramic landscape of the Missouri River in North Dakota. Samuel Hazo's "As Winds Dance" is an energetic and rhymically challenging piece. Our trumpet players, Cole and Brian, our doing a fabulous job with extended range notes, while Aaliyah on clarinet is learning the clarino register, or higher notes, of the clarinet! Two movements from "Scenes from an Ocean Voyage," a suite by Brian Balmages, will provide an opportunity for our percussionists, Aleister, Peter, Joshua, and Gracie to shine on a wide variety of instruments. "Dolphins at Play" and "Whale Sghting" will keep us busy in these winter months! Listening Samples:
